School Description

JBS is an IB World School offering all four IB programmes. As an IB continuum school, we offer the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), Career-Related Programme (CP) and the Diploma Programme (DP) for students from pre-KG until Grade 12.

In 2018, we introduced Character Education to further strengthen the IB educational philosophy. In November 2020, JBS obtained the Quality Mark Award by the Association of Character Education as the first school outside the UK. Character Education teaches the acquisition and strengthening of positive character traits (or virtues) which are necessary to achieve the highest potential in life. The development of ‘good character’ is fundamental to a well-rounded life and a thriving society. Therefore, flourishing is the ultimate aim of Character Education.

As of September 2022, JBS became a member of KiVa, which is an antibullying program developed by the University of Turku in Finland to further support our efforts to develop positive relationships in our students and provide a safe and positive school climate. This program will be taught as of September 2023.

Our approach to wellbeing promotion is further articulated in Our Vision, Mission and Core Values.

Extra Curricular Activities

JBS supports the philosophy that education goes beyond the limitations of the classroom. As a result, we have a varied and exciting range of sporting, creative, cultural and aesthetic activities.

The health and safety of the JBS community is our first and main priority during this current climate and the school is taking every precaution to ensure the health and safety of every person who enters the campus.

Working with over 20 of Dubai’s top academies, we encourage our students to engage with the extra-curricular opportunities across academic, art, performance, language, design and sporting activities, all of which are focused around a bespoke learning journey and outcome where students are likely to develop their skills specific to that activity as well as a range of universal skills which are increasingly relevant like:

Leadership
Collaboration
Resilience
Perseverance
Responsibility
Commitment

These skills play a vital role in generating a positive, nurturing environment that is so important for students to succeed academically as well as in their life beyond JBS. Attending extra-curricular academies have successfully helped pupils gain placement at some of the world’s top universities. It is evident that more and more universities look beyond just the academic grades and are also interested in the extra-curricular activities the applicants were involved in. A focus on resilience and perseverance has been noted to gauge if applicants have the capacity to complete some of the universities more challenging degree courses.
