School Description

Welcome to Kings’ School Al Barsha, an exceptional British Primary and Secondary school for global and local families.

We are a relatively new school, having opened in September 2014. We are an integral part of the successful family of Kings’ Schools, founded in 2004 with Kings’ School Dubai, the only school in the United Arab Emirates to have achieved an ‘outstanding’ rating by the Dubai Schools Inspection Bureau every year since inspections began.

Our schools all have the same key value – ‘The Best By Every Child’ – and this is the essence of our work, and what we all strive for every day. As a community, including leaders, teachers, support staff, parents and children, we know that working together in strong partnerships is the most effective way of supporting all our children to reach their full potential.

We are very proud of our British heritage and our thriving international community which is made up of many nationalities from around the globe. It is this combination of community and world-class educational standards that delivers such a high-quality, well-rounded, international education.

At Kings’ School Al Barsha we follow the National Curriculum for England as a framework which we then adapt to ensure a conceptual, integrated and enriched learning experience for our young learners. It is important that we contextualise the curriculum so that children understand what they are learning and why, by using the environment around them. It is also influenced by the individual and evolving needs of our children. The result is a rigorous bespoke curriculum, relevant to children growing up in Dubai but designed to produce happy and successful global citizens, ready to take their place in the world. Secondary school students will obtain GCSE and A-Level qualifications, which will contribute to the English Baccalaureate (EBacc). In addition all secondary students at Kings’ School Al Barsha will work towards their Gold Level Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Our outstanding teaching is creative and forward-thinking: we are always seeking innovative ways to inspire a lifelong love of learning in our young people. We believe that the way children are taught is as important as what they learn. Our approach is holistic, incorporating academic excellence and the attainment of skills as well as knowledge. We ensure a supportive environment focused on student happiness, health and well-being. We encourage our children to be active learners in every aspect of school life, inspiring independent, self-motivated and resilient individuals. The results speak for themselves with students achieving exceptional attainment, progress and success within and beyond the curriculum.

Kings’ School Al Barsha has outstanding facilities, from state-of-the-art technology throughout the school and classrooms to purpose-built science laboratories, design, technology and art suites. In addition there are extensive performing art venues and incredible sporting facilities, including full size grass rugby and football pitches, a prestigious Cricket Academy, multiple tennis and netball courts and three swimming pools including a full size competition and diving pool.

Schools should be special places, filled with happiness, curiosity and investigation, with inspiring teachers, challenging learning experiences and rich memorable activities. Kings’ School Al Barsha is just such a place, set in a beautiful campus, staffed by highly qualified teachers and exceptional leaders. It is a place of educational distinction, focused on achieving ‘The Best By Every Child’.

Extra Curricular Activities

Kings’ School Al Barsha offers an extensive programme of co-curricular activities for all children in Years 2 to 6. Year 1 children can join clubs from their second term, in January. Activities take place before and after school, and most clubs are run by Kings’ teaching or support staff, but there are also some externally run clubs.

We always cover a wide range of interests, from sports to music, science to arts, and we involve the Student Voice to generate ideas for the activities so that everybody has a chance to develop their passion. Activities change termly, but the current list includes everything from chess to rounders, origami to zumba, cooking to photography, and even includes a Dragons Den business club. External providers currently offer ballet, karate, yoga, engineering and even a Lego club.

Children can join two internal clubs per term for free, as well as any number of external clubs, which incur an additional charge. Bookings are made via our Parent Portal for internal clubs, while parents deal with external providers directly. For more information about After School Care, read our Parent Essentials.
